Here I am Leaving You Clues
Material Matters, Jodhpur, India (2017)
Material Matters is an exhibition that culminated a month-long sculpture residency at a farm in the outskirts of Jodhpur, India. Each object is created from reclaimed and repurposed material found on site; their surfaces altered by the history of their rural environment.
Experimentation and play led each outcome. The interior of a worn, sun-bleached hosepipe was cast in left-over plaster and was bent and tied into organic shapes. A series of mismatched furniture parts were reconstructed into a table, collaboratively made with a local farmer, who encouraged me to hammer each rusty, bent nail I found back into shape for reuse. A pit kiln was also outside the studio to fire ceramics and the walls of our studio painted a bright, hand-ground Jodhpur blue.
The resulting objects installed are peculiar, playful and inquisitive, finding new life in the discarded.
Exhibited at Material Matters as part of the Farm Studio International Residency program in Andore, Jodhpur, India (Feb - March 2017).
